Care on Sylvan ward

Whilst most of our care is provided in the community – in people’s own homes – sometimes people need to come to us for inpatient care on our ward, known as ‘Sylvan Ward’.

Sylvan Ward provides a peaceful environment for you to receive personalised care, particularly if your needs become more complex. Sylvan ward is a short-stay unit, which means many people only stay on the ward for a few days before they return home.

What happens on Sylvan Ward?

High quality nursing and medical care is supported by psychological and emotional support, complementary therapies, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. We encourage you to bring in photos, clothes and other reminders of home. Your family and friends can visit but please read the latest information on visiting here. Many people we care for are able to return home, however some do die on Sylvan Ward. We are here to support families and friends through that difficult time.

Why might someone be admitted to Sylvan Ward?

  • To manage symptoms that are particularly complex and have been difficult to control at home
  • To help people adapt to changes so they can go back home
  • To provide care at the end of life when it is not possible to die at home
