Pain
Not everyone who has a life-shortening illness has pain, but some people do. Most pain can be reduced or controlled to make things much more comfortable.
If you are in pain, please let your doctor or hospice nurse know so that we can find a response that is right for you. We don’t just look at individual symptoms, we try to tailor our response to the individual’s needs and look at the whole person.
There are various ways that we can help you to manage your pain, including:
Specialist medication
Complementary therapies
Physiotherapy
Occupational therapy to make your surroundings easier to deal with
Controlling pain is easier if it is dealt with early so don’t try to hang on until the pain becomes unbearable; speak to your doctor or nurse as soon as you can.
Sometimes pain can also cause anxiety which might also trigger other symptoms. We can also help with formal or informal counselling, relaxation sessions and sessions on how to cope with illness.
Our experienced pastoral network can also help with spiritual or emotional issues.
