How much sponsorship do I need to raise?
The Sunset Walk is a popular fundraising event, and we invite all of the local community to get involved.
Last year, the Sunset Walk raised an incredible £123,186 for St Nicholas Hospice Care. This is thanks to our walkers, who have signed up and pledged their fundraising support by gathering sponsorship from friends and family to help St Nicholas Hospice Care continue its work.
You are needed more than ever! The registration fee only covers the cost of putting the event on. We’re asking everyone who signs up to come together and pledge to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship each. This will help provide the essential care and support that the local community needs, when they need it most.
Don’t worry, our expert team are on hand to help you with top fundraising tips and advice to help you reach your target! We suggest that you set up a JustGiving page to share your fundraising with your friends, family, and loved ones. Why not be creative in your fundraising and host some events? A cake sale or quiz night are always great fundraisers, and we can provide you with collection tins or buckets for your events.
What happens on the night?
The Event Village will be open from 4pm, where food and drink will be available to purchase. There will also be entertainment, music and opportunities to capture the moment and really soak up the atmosphere. Before the walk sets off there will be event announcements, followed by a warm-up from the Zumba Chickz.
Just before 6pm, we will count you down and set the event off. Walkers will start from Abbey Gardens and the first landmark will be the iconic Abbey Gate. The route is either a 10km or 15km course and takes place on public footpaths. Along the route, there will be refreshment stops, toilets and live music. All walkers will pass by the Hospice, where there will be a moment to pause and remember those special to you.
Along the route, local artists and performers will provide entertainment and keep spirits high. As you head back into the Abbey Gardens and cross the finish line, you will receive your well-deserved medal and refreshments.
Once you’ve completed your 10km or 15km walk, why not come and soak up the summer sunshine in the Abbey Gardens and listen to the music?
Please note, due to council restrictions, all walkers must vacate the site by 10pm.
What are the memory wreaths?
Included in your registration fee, are heart-shaped memory wreaths, which you are welcome to personalise. Along the route, you’ll have the opportunity to pause and reflect on those special to you.
Can I bring my dog?
Only guide dogs are accepted; no other pets or animals are permitted to accompany walkers or marshals.
