Catering Assistant (Hospice Site)

St Nicholas Hospice Care is a local charity providing help, advice and support to people in West Suffolk and Thetford in the final chapters of their life, who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses. Our services are not just for patients, but for their family and friends too. They include everything from specialist medical care to bereavement support and practical help. St Nicholas Hospice is dedicated to its vision for everyone to matter in life and death.

Our catering team ensure that a varied and nutritious menu is available to our patients, visitors and employees both in our on-site Bistro and on our Sylvan Ward. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join the team.

As a Catering Assistant at St Nicholas Hospice Care, you will: support the chef on the In-patient ward taking orders & serving meals, undertake basic preparation of food and beverages to agreed standards, provide support and guidance to kitchen volunteers, prepare & serve of meals in the Bistro; including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and other hot food. You will be responsible for: maintaining the hygiene of kitchens, putting away deliveries, filling up vending machine & supporting the chefs where needed.

This role will be subject to a 4-week rota, covering 7 days of service and include working 1 in every 4th weekend.

The ideal candidate will be able to communicate with a variety of staff, patients and families, will have previous experience of working in a catering role, preferably within a healthcare setting and be committed to providing a high quality catering service.
