Physiotherapist

St Nicholas Hospice Care is a local charity in the beautiful, historic town of Bury St Edmunds providing help, advice and support to people in West Suffolk and Thetford who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses. Our services are not just for patients, but for their family and friends too. They include everything from specialist medical care to bereavement support and practical help. St Nicholas Hospice is dedicated to its vision that everyone in our communities has support, dignity and choice when facing dying, death and grief. The hospice, which is proud to be at the heart of its communities, has just celebrated the charity’s 40th anniversary year and its 30th anniversary of being on the purpose build hospice site.

Our 12 bedded hospice is set within the grounds of West Suffolk Hospital and backs onto heathland. Bury St Edmunds is a great place to live and is on a main train line, with regular connections to Newmarket, Cambridge, London, Stowmarket and Ipswich, and is within easy reach of the picturesque coastal villages and towns of Suffolk.

We are recruiting a Physiotherapist (0.8 FTE) to our Independent Living Team. In line with our mission, we continue to ‘strive for something better’ in ensuring the best end of life care for our beneficiaries; the role of Physiotherapist will play a part in driving this forwards. Alongside our Occupational Therapist and Therapy Assistant, you will support the delivery of a model of palliative rehabilitation, making a difference for the people in our care, both on Sylvan Ward and in their own homes.

You will have excellent communication skills and a good understanding of palliative care theory and practice, although we will consider supporting the development of these skills for the right candidate.  You will be able to work autonomously to manage a caseload of patients, who will have varying levels of complex need, as well as being a resource of specialist physiotherapy knowledge and expertise.  You will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team including our Alliance partners to ensure that specialist therapy resource is used effectively; this will include working with people on a 1:1 basis and by group work, to support our aspiration to deliver locality based services.

Experience of community therapy is an advantage.

As an employee of St Nicholas Hospice Care you would receive the following benefits:

·        25 days holiday, increasing to 29 with length of service (pro-rata if part-time)

·        Enhanced Occupational sick pay scheme

·        Company pension scheme or continuation of current NHS pension plan (subject to criteria)

·        Life assurance

·        Access to Blue Light Card scheme with a range of discounts

·        Free onsite parking – space guaranteed

·        Excellent training and development opportunities

·        Health Cash Plan & Wellbeing programme (dentistry, optical, emotional wellbeing support)

·        Opportunities to attend staff social events arranged by our social committee
