Twitch fundraisers results in hundreds for Hospice

Fundraisers Gav and Ju recently raised £870 for St Nic’s with their streaming fundraiser.

The couple decided that they wanted to mark Ju’s birthday and raise funds for the Hospice in memory of Ju’s dad, who was cared for by the charity before he passed away in 2020.

They said: “The staff at St Nicholas Hospice were so helpful and kind, had lots of practical advice about things to make him more comfortable, and always there for advice and support. Thank you.”

As Ju’s birthday couldn’t be celebrated in the usual ways, they came up with the idea of hosting a 12-hour live stream event on Twitch.

“If we couldn’t meet up in person due to the lockdown, we thought spending the day online, having fun and chatting to lots of our friends would be a great way to enjoy it! It also seemed a good opportunity to raise some money for charity, too,” they explained.

The fundraiser started at 10am and included games, a good natter with friends, a quiz and a spooky game to finish. The proceedings were also supported by their stream’s mascot, a virtual goose that appears on screen and honks, and as it was a special occasion, a virtual goat also made an appearance and a loud noise every time someone donated.

“It was an absolutely brilliant, albeit exhausting day. We had a great time! Everyone was so generous too,” they said.

A Bob Ross style painting created by Gav added £55 to the final total too.

Thank you to Gav, Ju and all of your supporters.
