Sponsors saddle up and get set to cycle 260 miles in aid of the Hospice

A team of women from Havebury Housing are planning to saddle up and cycle a total of 260 miles collectively to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The team is taking part in the annual Bury St Edmunds Women on Wheels (WoW) event on Sunday 7 July. The fun, friendly female-only event which starts from Nowton Park, is aimed at both beginners and experienced riders. The riders can choose to cycle a 10, 25, 50 or 70-mile route.

Havebury Housing are also sponsoring the event and Marie McCleary, director of resources and company secretary, Havebury Housing said:

We are proud to sponsor the Women on Wheels event for St Nicholas Hospice Care. It is a great opportunity for women of all ages to come together to raise money for a fantastic charity whilst having fun in the process. We are all looking forward to the day and we will see you all at the finish line!

Last year’s event attracted around 230 riders and raised £6,748 for the hospice, which supports people living with dying, death and grief in the West Suffolk and Thetford area.

George Chilvers, community fundraiser, St Nicholas Hospice Care said:

We're delighted that Women on Wheels has become a permanent fixture in our fundraising calendar and we are grateful for the wonderful amount raised so far and all the support that we continue to receive.

WoW Bury St Edmunds is one of four WoW events across Suffolk this year, organised by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with Suffolk County Council. The Bury St Edmunds event is sponsored by Havebury Housing Association and supported by specialist bike retailer Revel Outdoors, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to St Nicholas Hospice Care, Bury St Edmunds.

WoW Sudbury takes place in Acton on Sunday, 21 July.
