Explore the ‘Cloud Factory’ as British Sugar opens its doors for St Nicholas Hospice Care

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, British Sugar’s Bury St Edmunds factory is opening its gates to the public for the very first time – and all in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

From now until February 2026, you can book a free guided tour of the iconic local ‘Cloud Factory’ on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 5.30pm. Each tour lasts around two hours and offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the area’s most recognisable landmarks.

This special opportunity is part of a new charity partnership between British Sugar and St Nicholas Hospice Care. While the tours are free of charge, visitors are invited to make a donation to the Hospice, helping us continue to provide compassionate care for individuals and families across West Suffolk and Thetford.

How to book:

  • Tours are open to anyone over 16 (ID required on the day).
  • Groups are limited to 10 people per tour for safety.
  • To book your place, call 01284 763291 during office hours.

What to expect:

  • Walk approximately 1.5 miles inside and outside the factory (please note, some areas can be hot or cold depending on the weather).
  • Ascend and descend staircases (up to three floors).
  • All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • Please wear long sleeves and trousers, and bring your ID.

For full details on what to wear and safety guidelines, please see the information provided when booking.

We’re incredibly grateful to British Sugar for choosing St Nicholas Hospice Care as their charity partner for this milestone celebration. Every donation made by tour participants will help us bridge our daily funding gap of over £18,000 and ensure we can continue to support those facing dying, death, and grief in our community.

Don’t miss your chance to see behind the scenes at the ‘Cloud Factory’ and support your local hospice.
