Charity cycle ride will honour mother and son

A cycle ride in memory of a mother and son will raise funds for the Hospice.

Nadia Wakefield, will be joined by friends and family as she climbs into the saddle to tackle a 30 mile bike ride to raise funds.

Nadia and the team, who all love a challenge and enjoy biking, will be tackling the ride in memory of Nadia’s husband Trevor Wakefield and his mother Sharon Butters. Trevor died in 2019, and his mother the year before.

Nadia said: “When I was told the heart-breaking news of my husband’s diagnosis of cancer we clung onto hope he would beat it but sadly it wasn’t enough.

“Leading up to the death of my husband he was cared for by St Nicholas Hospice and they have been amazing and supportive with allowing me to stay with him and making it my second home for the two weeks he was there. They even offered for our children to stay.

“Not only did they give support and comfort they allowed us a precious chance of memories albeit bitter sweet memories, but still precious.

“Not only did the Hospice care for my husband but my mother-in-law too. I am forever grateful for what they have done and continue to do. My husband has left a giant hole in my life no one can fill and I feel this is something I can do to give back to St Nicholas for caring for my husband and being supportive to not only me but his family and friends, we want to do him proud and do this in his honour and love.”

The team are planning to take on their challenge on August 13, and will be riding from St Osyths to Walton-on-the Naze and back to St Osyths. They may do this in reverse depending on the situation with overnight accommodation.
