A birthday bash with a twist at Bury Golf Club raised more than £2,800 for us

Martin Outram celebrated his 70th birthday in style by raising £2,888 for our Hospice.

Alongside his wife Jean, Martin celebrated his 70th year with a party at Bury Golf Club, but instead of bringing along presents he asked his guests – more than 100 of them – to make a donation to the Hospice.

Martin, who lives in Newmarket, said: “It really was a dream come true. The party was fantastic it really was.

“We didn’t expect to raise as much as we did, but we honestly couldn’t have done it alone.

“Peter and Linda Elmes were totally involved with the organising and they generously provided the cake and flowers for nothing.”

The party, which took place on Saturday, 27 August at Bury Golf Club, also featured a raffle which included 40 prizes as well as a silent auction, and a selection of live music that had everyone dancing.

Martin said: “Singer Freddie Chenery was fantastic as was his wife Rosemary who helped with the raffle and Jenny Francis who also sang a few songs for us. It really was a special night.”
