Allison is running hundreds of miles for us

Allison Humphreys has embarked on the Lands End to John O Groats Virtual Run and hopes her energetic efforts will raise funds and awareness for the Hospice.

Allison, who has MS, has supported the charity for many years through our annual Girls Night Out walk.

Her latest challenge will see her tackle 874-miles and she has a year to do it. This isn’t the first challenge Allison has set herself. During the first lockdown in March 2020, she clocked up 500k by running 5k every day for 100 days.

Allison said: “As lockdown started last year I was off work due to vulnerability for 12 weeks so, I decided then I was going to run 5k daily to give me something to do.

“As that lockdown ended in June, so did my personal challenge. I’d run for 100 days totalling 500k.

“With skating and swimming out of the question again, I decided to look for a challenge. An old school friend told me about the Lands End to John O Groats virtual challenge of 874 miles with a year to complete, which doing my 5ks will take roughly 281 days.”

Having already started the challenge, as of January 17, Allison has currently completed 67 miles.

She said: “The Hospice is a local charity that I have supported through the Girls Night Out walks but wanted to do something different. This charity has supported close friends, and one day I may also need its help.”

Jenny Smith, our event manager, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to Allison for deciding to take part in this virtual challenge to raise funds for us. Allison has been a great supporter of the hospice and always wears her bunny ears with pride on Girls Night Out night.

“Her enthusiasm is amazing, and I know she will put her all into this virtual challenge. Good luck Allison.”
