Registrations for our charity cycle challenge are open

Climb into the saddle and help support a local charity by signing up for their charity cycle challenge.

St Nicholas Hospice Care’s cycling challenge, The Edge, will return on Sunday, 9 July, and the charity hopes cyclists will pull on their helmets and help raise much-needed funds.

Sponsored by Atkins Dellow, the ride features five routes (15, 30, 40, 60 or 100-miles) and offers beautiful views of the West Suffolk countryside.

The 15-mile route is suitable for families, and the 40-mile distance will be an exciting mix of road and track cycling.

All routes start and finish at Maglia Rosso Cycling Centre, in Hawstead, who are the challenge’s event partners, and all those taking part must wear a helmet at all times.

Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s events manager, said: “The Edge cycle ride is always a highlight in our fundraising calendar, and we are so grateful for the support it receives from those taking part and our sponsors Atkins Dellow and event partners Maglia Rosso.

“Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or want to try something new, The Edge is a great challenge. Our carefully planned routes mean you can pick a distance that suits you and your ability. We’d love to see as many people as possible take part this year.”

Participants do not have to raise funds for the hospice to take part, but if riders choose to ask for sponsorship, all monies would be gratefully received and will support the work St Nic’s does across West Suffolk and Thetford helping those facing dying, death and grief. Last year’s challenge saw more than £12,000 raised for the cause.

“By signing up for The Edge, you’ll also make a big difference to the hospice, as the money the event raises will help fund our care and services that thousands across the community rely on every year,” added Charlie.

Currently an early bird discount offer is running for some of the distances, which means you can sign up for the family ride for £25 (up to five people and not included in the early bird offer) and for individuals wanting to take on the 15-mile route it is £10 (£15 after the early bird), for the 30-mile route, the cost is £20 (£25 after the early bird), £25 for the 40-mile route (£30 after the early bird), £30 for the 60-mile (£35 after the early bird) and £40 for the 100-mile (£45 after the early bird) challenges. The early bird offer finishes at 9am on May 10.
