Dr Pat Murrell returns with the latest in her series of popular lectures, Step Back in Time, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

This lecture takes a look at some of the food and drink provided to mark high days, holidays and other notable occasions in and around late Stuart and Georgian Bury St Edmunds.

The elaborate meals given to mark coronations, the swearing of Suffolk’s High Sheriff, Aldermanic elections and victory celebrations are on the menu. So too, the more staple offerings of parish suppers, harvest horkeys, funeral wakes and Sunday School treats. Bills of fare, recipes, kitchens, finance and the logistics of cooking for great gatherings will be featured.

Looking for something different for that all-important party? This provides a few unusual ideas!

Refreshments included in the ticket price. Cakes and biscuits made to recipes of the period.

This event takes place on Thursday, 26 February at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm), at the United Reformed Church, Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds.

Previous events have sold out, so advance booking is essential.
