Dr Pat Murrell returns with the latest in her series of popular lectures, Step Back in Time, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.
This lecture takes a look at some of the private, commercial, public and charity-owned buildings bequeathed, transferred, sold, leased, built or modernised in a period of fluctuating fortunes. Attention will be given to the new and growing use of newspaper advertisements which opened up the property market to more participants, and the auctioneers who were the precursors of today’s estate agents. Never before researched, Pat Murrell’s lecture is based on a wide variety of sources.
This talk is a must for anyone interested in the town’s late Stuart and Georgian history.
Refreshments included in the ticket price. Cakes and biscuits made to recipes of the period.
This event takes place on Thursday, 25 June at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm), at the United Reformed Church, Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds.
Previous events have sold out, so advance booking is essential.
