Dr Pat Murrell returns with the latest in her series of popular lectures, Step Back in Time, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.

In this lecture, Pat Murrell shares her extensive, unpublished, original research into some of the major changes made to this important building and its facilities during the ‘long’ eighteenth century. Along the way, Pat reviews, revises and challenges some of the previously accepted views on the Guildhall’s Georgianisation. Apart from ongoing general repairs, the Guildhall also needed continual upgrading to ensure it was fit for purpose at a time when Bury’s fashionable reputation was to reach its zenith.

This is a rare opportunity to hear a fascinating contemporary account of early eighteenth-century provincial life in Bury and beyond.

Tickets cost £10, including refreshments of cakes and biscuits made to recipes of the period.

This event takes place on Thursday, 26 June at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm), at the United Reformed Church, Whiting Street, Bury St Edmunds.
