New ‘fill-a-bag’ shopping event launches to support local hospice care

A new shopping event offering affordable clothing while supporting hospice care is launching at St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Barton Road shop this July.

Save Me From Rag is a regular ‘fill‑a‑bag’ sale, where customers are invited to choose from a wide range of pre‑loved clothing and take home a full bag for a fixed price of £15.

The first event will take place on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, with plans for it to return regularly throughout the year.

During the event, shoppers will be welcomed into a dedicated sale area where clothing is laid out by category. Customers are given a bag on entry and can fill it with items of their choice before paying a single set price, making it a simple and accessible way to shop.

The initiative has been designed to make the most of donations received by the hospice, giving good quality clothing a second life while raising vital funds to support patients and families across the local community.

It also offers an opportunity for people to shop in a flexible way, whether they are looking for everyday essentials, something different, or simply a chance to browse.

Lorenzo Liddle, St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Head of Retail, said: “Save Me From Rag is a really simple idea that brings together good value and community support. People can fill a bag with clothes they’ll use, for a set price of £15, and know that what they’re doing is helping make a difference locally.

“Every item has been donated to us, and this is another way of making sure those donations go further. By giving clothing a second life, we can raise more to support patients and families who rely on our care. It’s straightforward to take part in, and we hope lots of people will come along and see what they can find.”

All items available through Save Me From Rag have been donated to the hospice, helping to maximise the value of each donation while keeping clothing in use for longer.

The hospice is encouraging local people to visit the Barton Road shop on event days, take part, and help turn donated clothing into care for people in the community.
