The Edge Terms and Conditions

Entry fee and registration

Registration for The Edge Cycle Ride opens on Friday, 5 April 2024, and closes on Thursday, 4 July 2024 at 9am. There is a pricing structure consisting of an Early Bird pricing on some entries. The Early Bird offer runs from 5 April and closes at 9am on 10 May 2024. Pricing thereafter will be known as general sale. Please note, that Early Bird pricing is not applicable to the 15-mile family ride.

We will allow signs up on the day, however, to guarantee a medal and goody bag, we recommend that you sign up online before it closes.

We encourage all riders at The Edge Cycle event to fundraise for St Nicholas Hospice Care. A link to JustGiving and a downloadable sponsorship form will be included in the confirmation email. If sponsorship money is raised offline, via a sponsorship form, money and forms should be returned to us by Monday, 2 September 2024.

You are not permitted to use any of the sponsorship money raised to pay for your entry fee or any expenses. All sponsorship money must be given directly to St Nicholas Hospice Care.

All participants are encouraged to raise some sponsorship to support St Nicholas Hospice Care.  Sponsorship can be paid in via the Pay in Your Fundraising page, on the Hospice website: https://stnicholashospice.org.uk/contact-us/pay-in-your-fundraising/. Please ensure that you state your full name and address so we can process and send you a thank you letter.

For the 30, 40, 60 and 100-mile rides, the minimum age for participants is 14 years old. There is no upper age limit. Participants aged between 14 and 17 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult at the event at all times.

For the 15-mile family ride, the minimum age for participants is eight years old. There is no upper age limit. Participants aged between 8 and 17 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult at the event at all times. All adults are responsible for the capability of those participants who are under 18 years old. All participants must have either completed a cycling proficiency test or have adequate experience of cycling on public highways. Additionally, all participants (regardless of age) must agree to the ‘Fit to Participate’ declaration as part of the registration process.

Once you have signed up for the cycle ride, you will receive your confirmation pack, including event information and route maps via email.

Included in your entry fee:  

• Refreshments
• Water stops along some of the routes
• Bespoke event medal (kindly supplied by event sponsors, Atkins Dellow)
• Goody bag (kindly supplied by Atkins Dellow and Maglia Rosso)

Cancellation policy

Places for The Edge Cycle Ride are non-transferable and non-refundable. If you are unable to take part for whatever reason, you must inform us as soon as possible, return your paper sponsor form and close your online giving page, even if it has no sponsorship entries.

If you have received sponsorship, please let your sponsors know that you are no longer able to take part. Sponsorship can be offered back although any fees incurred to St Nicholas Hospice Care from online donation pages or equivalent will be deducted first.

If St Nicholas Hospice Care cancels the event, we would seek to provide an alternative date or offer a refund to participants.

The Event

The Edge Cycle Ride starts and finishes from Maglia Rosso Cycling Shop and Café. The address for the event is: Maglia Rosso, Metcalfe Arms, Lawshall Road, Hawstead, IP29 5NR.

On arrival, please make your way to the event registration area to check in before your wave time departs.

Start times:
100-mile route – 9am
60-mile route – 9:15am
40-mile route – 9:30am
30-mile route – 9:45am
15-mile route – 10am

All riders must complete the ride by 5pm, and as riders return back to Maglia Rosso, they must sign back in, and will be handed a goody bag and medal.

All riders will be issued with a bike tag, with the Maglia Rosso telephone number and the Event  Organiser’s contact number. Should you have any issues whilst out on the course, and require support, please call either number as they will be able to assist. If you have a medical emergency, please call 999.

Responsibility

Riders are to abide by the rules of the event and understand that neither St Nicholas Hospice Care nor Maglia Rosso can be held responsible for any injury or loss of effects sustained by participants before, during or after the event.

Riders must adhere to the Highway Code at all times.

All riders must wear a suitable cycling helmet and high reflective gear, if required.

Participants are responsible for the safety of their own equipment and must ensure that their bicycles are in good working order and roadworthy before the event.

At the time of registration, St Nicholas Hospice Care will ask participants to share any medical conditions for event purposes only.

Please consult your doctor if you suffer from heart, joint, back or breathing problems or any other medical condition that may affect your ability to take part.

If you feel unwell on the day, we suggest you do not take part in the event.

The Edge is not a race.

Using your data

We must be able to keep you informed of important updates and information regarding this event, so we will use your email address and postal details to contact you. Please provide accurate details when registering.

Promotion and publicity

At the event, Hospice photographers and videographers will be capturing images for use in publicity. If you are uncomfortable with your image being used in future publicity, please notify the Hospice’s Fundraising Team in writing, and/or express your wishes to those photographing on the day.

At the event, representatives from the local media and other organisations are invited to attend. This includes reporters, photographers, and videographers. During the event, they may wish to speak to you, take photographs or record a short interview. It is your decision whether to agree to their request. St Nicholas Hospice Care does not have any influence over how the information you share with them is used, or when and where images may appear. If you have any concerns on the day, please speak to a member of the Hospice’s Events Team.

The event organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who does not comply with these terms and conditions or who they believe may be a danger to themselves or others.
