Cancellation policy
Places for the Sunset Walk are non-transferable and non-refundable. If participants are unable to take part for whatever reason, they must inform us as soon as possible, return the paper sponsor form and close their online giving page, even if it has no sponsorship entries.
If participants have received sponsorship, they should let their sponsors know that they are no longer able to take part. Any sponsorship funds raised can be returned to donors, but online platform fees incurred by St Nicholas Hospice Care will be deducted first.
If St Nicholas Hospice Care cancels the event, we will seek to provide an alternative date or offer a refund to participants.
The walk
The Sunset Walk takes place in the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds (IP33 1XL. What3Words: ///presides.late.aviators). The best way to enter the event is via the Mustow Street entrance.
At the start of the event, there will be an event village, and during the walk, there will be an opportunity to remember special people.
As the walk starts, both distances take place on the same part of the route. There will be a split for the longer distance, and the routes will join back up for the last point entering back into the Abbey Gardens.
The routes will be on public roads and footpaths. Road closures will be in place at certain points of the walk. It is the participant’s responsibility to follow the Highway Code at all times and to conduct themselves in a safe manner.
Participants are responsible for their own medical condition and ensure they are fit to complete the walk. They should consult a doctor if they have heart, joint, back, or breathing problems or any other medical condition that may affect their ability to take part.
There will be marshals along the routes to direct participants to follow the routes. If participants wish to withdraw from the walk, they must let a marshal know.
Participants cannot be under the influence of alcohol during the Sunset Walk.
Only guide dogs are accepted; no other pets or animals are permitted to accompany walkers or marshals.
Entrants with limited mobility are advised to contact the Hospice Events Team in advance for advice on the suitability of the route.
For safety reasons, we will implement a cutoff point. All participants must reach Mustow Street by 9pm. For those unable to complete the full 15km distance, they will be diverted to the finish point. Due to council restrictions, all participants must be finished by 10pm and must vacate the site to allow clean-up.
The Sunset Walk is not a race; no running or jogging is allowed.
Raising money
All participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of £100 to support St Nicholas Hospice Care. We encourage walkers to set up a Justgiving page or download our sponsorship form. Participants are not permitted to use any of the sponsorship money raised to pay for their entry fee or any expenses. All sponsorship money must be given directly to St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Sponsorship can be paid in via the Pay in Your Fundraising page, on the Hospice website: https://stnicholashospice.org.uk/contact-us/pay-in-your-fundraising/. Participants should ensure they provide their details, including name, address and whether the sponsorship is part of a team effort, so they can be thanked for their donation.
