Event volunteer opportunities

We are so grateful to all our supporters and event volunteers who take the time to volunteer at Hospice fundraising events throughout the year.

Here is a list of all the events coming up in 2018. If you would like to volunteer at any of these events, or require further information, please email fundraising@stnh.org.uk

Saturday 27 January – Market Stall, Bury St Edmunds
This is a permanent pitch every 3rd Saturday that will be used predominantly to advertise and promote the Hospice lottery, raffles, etc. It will also be the regular presence of the Hospice at the market. Volunteers welcome to join for an hour or more throughout the day to assist and promote the lottery and events.

Saturday 14 April – Spring street collection – Bury St Edmunds
Bucket collectors required for an hour (or more) for a street collection in Bury Town Centre. Meeting at the Oddfellows, Bury St. Edmunds. Hourly time slots will be from 10am to 3pm. Refreshments will be available for volunteers.

Saturday 21 April – Market Stall, Bury St Edmunds

Saturday/Sunday 28/29 April – East Anglia Game and Country Fair, Euston Park
Euston Rural Pastimes need volunteers at the country fair to promote their event in June. An opportunity to enjoy the fair after your shift is done.

Friday 4 May –  Fashion Fusion, Bury St Edmunds
Fashion Show at the Apex featuring a dozen local and national retailers. The show will include a welcome drink and health, beauty and wellness stalls in the bar area. We will require volunteers to help with setting up, selling raffle tickets, serving welcome drinks and backstage support.

Sunday 13 May – Bury to Clare walk, Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds
Organised by Kevin Marshall from Positive Steps Fitness. Annual Bury to Clare Run or Walk/Nordic Walk. Volunteers required to help at signing in participants at Nowton Park, marshal along the route and hand out medals at the finish line at Clare Country Park. This will be an early start.

Saturday 19 May – Market Stall, Bury St Edmunds

Saturday 19 May – Paws in the Park set up, Nowton Park
Volunteers required to set up the show, i.e. putting out fences, banners, etc (will include moving and handling). Timings to be confirmed.

Sunday 20 May – Paws in the Park, Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds
Dog event held in partnership with Swayne & Partners. Volunteers to help at signing in entries for the classes (with help from Swaynes), car parking and entrance tent. This will be an all day event, so can split shifts and work round your preferences.

Friday to Sunday 8/9/10 June – Homegrown Music Festival, Barrow
We have been fortunate enough to be selected as the charity of the year for Homegrown Music Festival in Barrow; a popular music event for all the family. Volunteer roles will include ticket sales, car park marshalling or acting as a Hospice Ambassador in the designated Hospice tent. All volunteers will receive free entry to the festival which has a wide selection of musical genres playing.

Sunday 10 June – Euston Park Rural Pastimes – all day event
Volunteers required to process the entry of approx 7,000 visitors to the show as well as programme sellers. Very busy and great fun! Whoever joins us on the day will also be able to visit the many displays and activities throughout the day once the main job has been completed.

16 & 17 June – Suffolk Trail Running Festival
The Suffolk Trail Festival (TrailFest) is a unique opportunity to enjoy running in the beautiful Suffolk countryside between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury.  There are four types of events – the 3k fun run, 10K trail race and the 12 or 24 hour race challenge. Volunteers will be needed throughout the weekend to assist with marshalling the runs for as little or as long a time as you can spare.

Sunday 17 June – Hidden Gardens, Bury St Edmunds
Volunteers required to process the donation and gift aid and collection of entry tickets from Angel Hill. A gazebo will be set up with tables in the morning. All volunteers will be given the opportunity to visit the gardens after their shift. An additional request this year is for a select number of couples to visit gardens as Hospice representatives to say thank you for their support on the day.

Saturday/Sunday 30 June/1 July – Sudbury Open Gardens
Volunteers to help with refreshments and ticket sales. Time slots between 10am to 4pm. This event is organised by the Sudbury Rotary Club.

Sunday 1 July – The Edge, starting from Bury Rugby Club
The Edge is our 60-mile bike ride that winds round the Suffolk countryside. Starting and finishing from the Bury Rugby Club. Volunteer roles include helping at registration, being a route marshal, helping at water stops, presenting medals and greeting at the finish line.

Saturday 7 July – Newmarket Carnival bucket collection
Bucket collectors required for an hour (or more) street collection. We will meet at the Hospice shop in the High Street. Hourly time slots will be from 10am to 3pm. Refreshments will be available for volunteers.

Sunday 8 July – Women on Wheels Bury St Edmunds
For all those cycling enthusiasts – volunteer roles include either staffing the Hospice stall in Nowton Park or acting as roadside marshal.

Sunday 22 July (rescheduled from 18 March) – Battle of the Knights II, The Playground, Barrow
A 5k race with obstacle course challenge. Packed with plenty of fun, Battle of the Knights. Volunteers required to help signing in participants, road marshals, obstacle marshals and car parking.

Sunday 19 August – Girls Night Out T-shirt handout – Hospice
The handout session is really good fun, it’s a great way of engaging with the walkers taking part in September. Times are 10.30am to 2pm. There will be two shifts 10.30am to 12.15pm or 12.15pm to 2pm.

Thursday 23 August – Girls Night Out T-shirt handout – Bury Rugby Club
The handout session is really good fun, it’s a great way of engaging with the walkers taking part in September. Times are 5pm to 7pm.

Sunday 26 August – Mildenhall Triathlon
Haver Sports will once again be supporting the Hospice with the Mildenhall triathlon – volunteers required to help marshal the route – for every marshal the Hospice provides we will receive a donation from Haver Sports.

Sunday 2 September  –  Classic & Sports Cars by the Lake
A fun day for all motor enthusiasts. Whoever joins us on the day will be able to visit the many displays and activities once their shift has been completed plus enjoy a complimentary burger and beverage. Volunteer roles include support at main entrance, selling raffle tickets, bucket collection from stall holders and marshals.

Saturday 8 September – Girls Night Out – our 10th walk!
This year sees our 10th birthday of the event and we imagine we’ll have the biggest amount of walkers attending. Girls Night Out is an 11.2 or 6-mile circular walk round Bury St Edmunds for women, wearing PJs and flashing bunny ears. Volunteers required to help as route marshals, handing out bunny ears, signing in, and an extra pair of hands.

Sunday 16 September – Women on Wheels Sudbury
For all those cycling enthusiasts – volunteer roles include either staffing the Hospice stall in Sudbury or acting as roadside marshal.

Sunday 30 September –  Bury Goes Biking
A brand new event for Bury St Edmunds. A closed road-cycling event for all the family through the town. Volunteers required to marshal route and help with signing riders in.

Sunday 7 October – Paws around the Park
After the huge success of Paws in the Park, the Hospice will be holding its first sponsored Dog Walk. Volunteers will be required to marshal the route, help with car parking and take registration money.

Saturday 20 October – Market Stall, Bury St Edmunds

Saturday 27 October – Pumpkin Parade, Hospice
A brand new event for young children and their families. A pumpkin themed parade around the Hospice grounds. Volunteers required (dressed in their finest pumpkin themed attire if possible) to help along the route and with sign-in/registration.

Saturday 17 November – Barningham Choir Event
A new musical event which may require help with refreshments, parking and any other tasks that arise. Full details to follow.

Sunday 25 November – Christmas Quackers/Christmas Fayre, Bury St Edmunds
Volunteers to help sell then launch 1,000 ducks into the River Lark… and fish them out again!

Saturday 8 December – Market Stall, Bury St Edmunds

Saturday 15 December – Festive Forest Challenge, West Stow Country Park
Organised by Kevin Marshall from Positive Step Fitness. Annual Nordic Walking/walking/running event – all are encouraged to wear Christmas Jumpers. Volunteers to help at signing in participants at West Stow Country Park, marshal along the route, refreshment stops, and greet and present medals at finish line.

Saturday 15 December – Christmas Santa’s street collection/themed Fun Fundraiser! (TBC)
Bucket collectors required for an hour (or more) street collection in the Arc and Bury Town Centre. Theme to be confirmed. Meeting at the Oddfellows, Bury St. Edmunds. Hourly time slots will be from 10am to 3pm. Refreshments will be available for volunteers.

Tuesday 18 December – Tesco superstore, Newmarket (TBC)
Bucket collectors required. Located in the foyer of the Tesco store in Newmarket – Christmas themed dress appreciated. We meet at the supermarket entrance. Hourly time slots will be from 9.30am to 4pm. Refreshments available.
