A Night Before Christmas Auction

Thank you for visiting the ‘A Night Before Christmas’ online auction site. Below, you have the opportunity to pledge an amount to buy any of the fantastic lots listed. The online auction site will close on Wednesday 5 December, at 9am.

A pledge is simply an amount you promise to pay if you are the highest bidder of any lot – we will not take any money or payment details from you until after the auction has ended, and will only ask for this if you are the highest pledger.

This auction is silent; no one except the organisers can see how much you have pledged.

We simply ask you to pledge an amount that you are willing to pay for any lot, in the knowledge that all profits from this auction will raise vital funds for four local charities in Suffolk.

We thank you so very much for your generosity.

Silent Pledge Lots

Framed custom art print of St Edmundsbury Cathedral by Harald Altmaier (reserve £1,500) - Current bid £0

Please note that this lot is on display at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and that the auction of this item will close on 28 November 2019.

Harald Altmaier was born in Germany and grew up in Saarland, by the French and Luxembourg borders, surrounded by rolling hills thick with pine forest, romantic castle ruins, vineyards, coal mines and steelworks. This cornucopia of landscapes was influential in developing his keen eye for detail and structure. An avid photographer in his youth, he put floristry first for thirty years and then three years ago rediscovered his passion for the camera.

He is particularly fascinated, one might say obsessed, by ceilings; whether they be of Norman simplicity or featuring the intricate detail and lavishness of the Baroque or Rococo. His focus and depiction draw the eye of the viewer upwards.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral stands out in his collection of ceiling images. The perfectly proportioned majestic columns dividing the centre of the church naturally guide the eye towards the kaleidoscopic tower ceiling. Harald has captured this particular view, seductive in its detail, of the magnificent awe-inspiring craftmanship, and generously donated a framed custom art print to assist this evening’s fundraising. Limited editions of Harald’s work are available exclusively at Bentleys, 91 Lower Sloane Street, London or through his website.
