St Nic's celebrates its amazing volunteers
We're joining the 2025 Volunteers' Week celebration running from June 2-8

What is Volunteers' Week
Volunteers’ Week is a time for us to say thank you to everyone who volunteers for St Nic’s to make a difference.
The week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering, we have hundreds of people who give their time to the Hospice in a number of different ways.
At St Nic’s we couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers.

Anne Taylor
“I have been a volunteer in The Bistro for nearly three years and absolutely love my Monday mornings with an extremely friendly and supportive team.
“My husband Paul had end-of-life care in the Hospice, and we, as a family, found the care and support invaluable. I needed to give something back to the Hospice and thought giving my time and commitment would be ideal for me. I would call it my happy place.”

Hugh Douglas-Pennant
“Those not connected with St Nicholas Hospice often ask why would you want to work in this gloomy and sad world? Well, gloomy it never is, sad sometimes but never ever gloomy
“I would challenge anybody to find a more positive environment to work in than our inpatient ward. Whilst the staff are supporting people who are here for end-of-life care or symptom management, everybody looking after our patients are amazing in their positive attitude, trying to make people’s lives easier and better when they’re dealing with an exceptionally challenging situation.”

Norma Frost
“After finishing full-time work, I knew that I still needed to do something regularly. I found out the Hospice was looking for volunteers, and now, years later, I am still here.
“I enjoy meeting and helping both patients and their families, talking to them, making teas and coffees when needed, and helping with meal times.”
Could you volunteer for us?
We're always in need of people able to give their time to St Nic's
The Hospice’s volunteer force is a diverse one, and we are always looking to add to our numbers.
Whether you think you could lend a hand in one of our shops, give some help to a fundraising event, or support one of our services, we’d love to hear from you.
