Make a Will and help the Hospice during Wills Weeks

Making a Will could help raise funds during St Nicholas Hospice Care’s annual Wills Weeks event.

Throughout June, legal advisers across West Suffolk and Thetford offer to write or update Wills in return for a donation to the Hospice instead of their usual fee.

Each of the participating law firms – a list appears below – nominates one week of the month to be their Wills Week. Anyone without a Will, or with a Will which needs updating, is encouraged to make an appointment.

Nick Duncan, St Nicholas Hospice Care Legacy Officer, said: “We are delighted so many legal advisers are giving their time for free to help the hospice.

“Getting a Will drafted protects your family and gives everyone peace of mind. Many people do not realise how the law can badly disadvantage their loved ones in certain circumstances if they don’t leave a Will – nor that certain life events can invalidate a previously valid Will.”

During Wills Weeks, rather than charging a fee for the service, legal advisers ask for a donation to the hospice which represents a discount from their usual fee.

“Wills Weeks provide the opportunity to make or update a Will to ensure your loved ones are looked after as you would wish,” said Nick.

“The donations generated help the Hospice to continue to offer our vital services to people in the community who need them. We do encourage participants to value the professional advice and expertise of their Wills Weeks legal adviser and to be generous with their donations. We are extremely grateful for all donations we receive.”

Nick added that he hoped some people might think about leaving a gift to the Hospice in their Will.

“We hope that some participants will also think about leaving a gift to the Hospice in their Will after they’ve remembered their loved ones. The Hospice relies heavily on gifts in Wills to help keeps its services running for the benefit of future generations of patients,” he said, adding that “it’s a wonderful legacy to leave to your community when you go.”
