We join forces with Local Hospice Lottery to boost support

St Nicholas Hospice Care is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Local Hospice Lottery, which will boost the lottery funds raised by St Nicholas Hospice Care’s supporters helping to provide vital care for years to come.

From February 3 2025, St Nicholas Hospice Care will join 41 other hospice charities across Great Britain benefitting from Local Hospice Lottery, a not-for-profit hospice-owned lottery.

By partnering with Local Hospice Lottery and ending their current lottery, St Nicholas Hospice Care, which currently needs to raise £8m each year to support its services, aims to raise over £1,000,000 for local care in the next five years.

Proceeds from the weekly draws will provide vital income, helping the charity deliver specialist care and support to families facing dying, death and grief across West Suffolk and Thetford.

Gill Jolly, St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Interim Director of Income Generation, said:  “We are delighted to be joining forces with Local Hospice Lottery, a partnership that will transform our lottery fundraising and help us support even more people across our community.

“This collaboration promises to raise over £1,000,000 for us over the next five years but also ensures our supporters can enjoy larger prize draws.

“Joining the Local Hospice Lottery is an easy and meaningful way for people to support St Nicholas Hospice Care on a regular basis. As hospices like ours face growing funding challenges, sustainable income streams like this are more important than ever.

“Currently, it costs around £8m to run St Nicholas Hospice each year. That’s equivalent to £22,000 per day. We receive some statutory funding, which covers around 20% of our costs. But we still need to raise a further £17,500 each day. Becoming part of the Local Hospice Lottery means that we will now receive more from every £1 entry than ever before, so we encourage as many local people as possible to join and help us make an even greater impact in our community.”

By sharing management costs and overheads, Local Hospice Lottery’s model ensures that as much money as possible can be passed to hospice care, whilst also giving supporters the opportunity to win in a larger prize fund too.

For each £1 entry in the weekly draw, Local Hospice Lottery will give between 60% and 80% of profits from individuals playing in support of St Nicholas Hospice Care to the charity. This is significantly more than most other society lotteries, and, to date, Local Hospice Lottery has raised over £65 million for hospice care across the country.

Anyone in Great Britain aged 18 or over can join the Local Hospice Lottery to support St Nicholas Hospice Care. Membership costs just £5 a month, offering 201 weekly cash prizes, including a £2,000 guaranteed top prize, a £1,000 rollover prize (which can reach up to £25,000), plus a range of smaller amounts are also up for grabs and there are three super draws each year offer a chance to win £10,000 every March, September, and December.

Taking part in the lottery is an easy, affordable, and fun way to help support St Nicholas Hospice Care and people can get involved by joining online by clicking here.

To recruit new players and increase funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care, a team of paid fundraisers will be working in the area, both door-to-door and at local venues, inviting people to join the lottery. All team members will wear uniforms and carry Local Hospice Lottery photo ID cards.
