Successful charity cycle challenge raises thousands

Almost 200 riders donned their helmets and unleashed their pedal power to support us on Sunday (July 9) as our popular cycle event, The Edge, returned for 2023.

With the sun shining, 199 cyclists climbed into their saddles and tackled one of the five routes the event, which Atkins Dellow sponsored, had to offer.

Starting and finishing at the Maglia Rosso cycling café, which the hospice partnered with to run the event, fundraisers made their way around the beautiful Suffolk countryside, completing either 15, 30, 40, 60 or 100 miles.

Thanks to these riders’ unwavering support and determination, more than £12,000 has been raised for the cause, which supports those across West Suffolk and Thetford and their families facing dying, death and grief, and this figure is likely to increase as funds are still coming in.

Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s event manager, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all of our riders who took part in our cycle challenge event, the Edge, on Sunday. It was such a brilliant day, and it was wonderful to see so many cyclists taking part. To have raised over £12,000 is fantastic. These funds are so vital as they will help support patients and their families facing dying, death and grief.

“I’d also like to thank Atkins Dellow, who not only sponsored the event but kindly entered a team and fundraised. Our gratitude also goes to our event partner Maglia Rosso; without them, the event wouldn’t be the success it is. From hosting, helping set the routes and offering free bike checks in the days leading up to the event, they have been terrific. Big thank yous also to our fundraising volunteers and to the Eastern Community Assistance Team (EA-CAT) for their support too.”
