Our Sunset Walk raises an amazing £117,715

We are pleased to announce that our first Sunset Walk has raised an amazing £117,715 to support our services which care for those across West Suffolk facing dying, death, and grief.

The event, which took place on June 22, saw around 1,000 fundraisers pull on their comfiest trainers and make sure every step they took counted.

Sponsored by Greene King, the walk, which set off as the sun set over Bury St Edmunds, started and finished in the Abbey Gardens. Participants walked to the beat while covering either a 10K or 15K distance.

Charlie De-Moore, the hospice’s events manager, said: “We are so pleased that our first-ever Sunset Walk has raised such a wonderful amount. £117,715 will make a massive difference to the work our charity does across West Suffolk and Thetford.

“We already thought the Sunset Walk was an amazing occasion, and to have raised so much really is the icing on the cake.

“On behalf of everyone at St Nic’s, I would like to thank all those who supported the walk: our fantastic walkers, who literally made sure every step counted; our terrific volunteers and marshals for giving their time to ensure the event ran smoothly and that our walkers were safe on the routes. A big thank you also to our main sponsors, Greene King, for their generosity.”

The walk itself was filled with laughter and camaraderie, alongside more tender moments in which walkers remembered loved ones. At the charity’s Hardwick Lane hospice, walkers placed paper lanterns in remembrance of those they missed.

Musical acts and performers also lined the routes, providing walkers with a boost as they completed their distances.

Following the success of the inaugural Sunset Walk, St Nic’s is pleased to share that the event will return next year on June 21, 2025.

“We are delighted to announce that the Sunset Walk will be returning, and we look forward to welcoming walkers once more. Please mark the date in your calendar and join us. We look forward to sharing further news when we can,” added Charlie.
