Group set to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge in a bid to boost hospice funds
Fitness enthusiasts are preparing to put in the steps for a good cause as they embark on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise awareness and funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Led by Kenny Egan, the group of eight from Jeanette Saunders Fitness Boot Camp will attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the United Kingdom – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – in just 24 hours.
Taking on the challenge alongside Kenny will be Steve Lamb, Maria Barker, Louise Godfrey, Dave Blayney, Oliver Shevki, Adam Kemp and Martyn Charity. The group will also be supported by their driver Seamus Bowles.
Steve Lamb said: “My reason for supporting St Nicholas is that nine years ago, my brother-in-law, and one of my best friends, Giles Wigg, was cared for in the last months of his life by their amazing team.
“They also cared for the extended family, and this has been ongoing since. I feel that this is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of the excellent service they provide and raise some money to enable them to care for others as they did for Giles.”
The challenge, which the group will start on May 17, will involve walking a total of 23 miles in three stages, ascending a total of 3,064 meters, and covering approximately 480 miles of road travel.
Funds raised from the group’s challenge will support St Nic’s work across West Suffolk and Thetford to provide specialist palliative care and support to people facing dying, death and grief.
