How challenging is it?
Discover Adventure grades this challenge as Yellow Graded – these are challenges that take place over a long weekend or the equivalent of 3-4 days. With a mix of idyllic cities, winding roads and some tough hills, the route is accessible for moderate ability cyclists who are looking to achieve this next goal, before moving on to tougher and longer Orange Graded routes.
What will I need to bring?
A full kit list will be provided, but essential items you will need to provide are a bike, a helmet (compulsory) and water bottles.
How many people will be taking part?
The London to Paris Cycle Ride is a popular event, and usually has between 30 and 100 participants for each ride.
Can we enter as a team?
Absolutely! People can sign up as a group of friends, or a corporate team of colleagues, as well as individuals looking to join like-minded people. Email info@discoveradventure.com for more info about group participation.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. All cyclists need to be over 18.
Can I still do it if I have a medical condition?
You’ll be asked to complete a medical form ahead of the cycle ride. If you have any concerns about your fitness to take part, talk to your doctor before signing up.
What is included in the cost?
All transport from London to Paris return (by ferry and Eurostar), 4 nights hotel accommodation on a twin share basis, all meals except where specified, Discover Adventure crew (number dependent on group size), vehicle support throughout the trip, route information, standard bike return for your collection at St Pancras following group Eurostar. 100% of the carbon emissions from your trip are offset.
Is travel insurance included?
No. You will need to arrange your own travel insurance.
Will accommodation be provided?
Yes. Accommodation will be hotels or lodges of a 2-3* standard or equivalent. Standards may vary between the hotels, but they are generally comfortable and convenient for our route. Hotels are often on the outskirts of towns to minimise unnecessary extra mileage and avoid traffic.
Trips are sold on a shared accommodation basis, usually twin-share, in hotels convenient to the route.
You can declare if you are travelling with someone else on the trip when you book or within your passenger portal, and all will be done to accommodate this request.
Will food be provided?
Yes. Lunches will be a mix of restaurants along the route, or supplies will be purchased from local shops; dinners are usually eaten at the hotel. For larger-sized groups, we may opt to cater the lunches ourselves with a buffet-style provision. Being vegetarian or having other dietary requirements is not usually a problem, provided you inform us of this well in advance.
What are the sign-up options?
Full Payment Option: You are responsible for paying the costs associated with this challenge. This will be due for payment 8 weeks before departure. If you wish to, you can still fundraise under this payment option but there is no set target to achieve and 100% of all monies raised will go directly to your charity. You can select your chosen charity within the booking process
Part Payment Option: You commit to raising the target and pay at least 80% of this to your chosen charity 10 weeks before departure and the final 20% within 2 weeks of your return. Your chosen charity will retain 50% of the target plus any additional fundraising you achieve. You will pay a contribution to your trip costs which will lower your fundraising target.
