Help us celebrate 40 years of caring
St Nicholas Hospice Care is celebrating 40 years of providing vital services to those across West Suffolk and Thetford facing dying, death and grief.
We want to use the occasion to thank the community for their support and raise awareness of the importance of end-of-life care and the comfort the Hospice can bring.
Since being founded on August 24, 1983, St Nic’s has supported thousands of local people. They are there not just for patients but for their families and friends, too, offering everything from specialist medical and bereavement care to practical help.
Linda McEnhill, Chief Executive of St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “St Nic’s was born out of the belief that there should be ‘something better’ for those facing terminal illness and their loved ones.
“Those words, spoken 40 years ago by our founder Rev Canon Richard Norburn, MBE, remain true to this day and are at the very heart of everything we strive to do. St Nic’s has been shaped by so many compassionate people who have helped build our legacy along the way, and we want to use our 40th year to recognise those wonderful people.
“Nobody knows what the next 40 years will bring, but with an ageing population and far greater demand for our services, we will need to step up to the mark and support even more people in the coming years to ensure no one in our community faces death and loss on their own.
“We’re proud to have been part of our community for 40 years – we’ve cared for you and your loved ones, and you’ve cared for us. Together, let’s celebrate 40 years of caring.”
The Hospice will be organising several events from now until next August, including fundraising opportunities and ways to remember and honour those who have died.
We will also be telling the wonderful stories of those who have supported and been supported by St Nic’s over the last 40 years.
