St Nicholas Hospice Care joins national campaign highlighting the importance of legacy giving
St Nicholas Hospice Care is proud to be one of 143 hospices across the UK taking part in the “This is Hospice Care” campaign, a national initiative led by Hospice UK. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the vital role hospices play in communities and highlight the importance of legacy giving in securing their future.
Launched on February 17, the campaign has already resonated with audiences through a compelling TV advert featuring real-life hospice stories. It encourages people to consider leaving a gift in their Will to support local hospices, ensuring they can continue to provide specialist and compassionate care for future generations.
For St Nicholas Hospice Care, legacy gifts are a lifeline. It costs the charity around £8 million each year to continue providing expert palliative care and emotional support to individuals and families across West Suffolk and Thetford. While the charity receives some support from statutory funding, a significant shortfall, which needs to be met through donations, fundraising, and gifts left in Wills remains.
Nick Duncan, the hospice’s Gifts in Wills Manager, said: “Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most powerful ways to ensure hospice care is here for generations to come. Even a small percentage of an estate can make a lasting impact, helping us to provide care and support to those who need it most.
“Every legacy gift—large or small—helps safeguard hospice services, ensuring no one has to face dying, death, or grief alone. With one in five hospices at risk of reducing services due to rising costs and funding shortfalls, community support is more crucial than ever.”
