Maureen said goodbye to her locks in husband’s memory
Maureen Forbes’ recent fundraising endeavour in aid of our Hospice saw her climb into the hairdressers chair and have her head shaved.
The 70-year-old is spurred on to complete her charitable hair cut fundraiser efforts in memory of her husband Stuart, who passed away in December 2012.
Maureen, who lives in Brandon, said: “After my husband died I decided that I wanted to be able to do something to help.
“The Hospice made such a big difference to us, like it does for so many others. Not only did it support Stuart, they also supported our family.
“I have never met such dedicated and caring staff; he was treated as an individual, nothing was too much trouble. I really can’t speak highly enough of the Hospice, the nurses were brilliant, and they were there when we needed them.”
Maureen had originally thought she would take part in the Hospice’s annual Girls Night Out moonlight walk, but problems with her knees meant she had to come up with a plan B.
“I had wanted to do the Girls Night Out but that wasn’t really an option so I decided I would shave my head instead. I went into the hairdressers on the Monday and told them what I wanted to do – they said they could fit me in on the Friday and that was that,” said Maureen.
The hair cut took place earlier this month at The Hare Hairdressers in Brandon – so far Maureen has raised £240, but with money still coming in she is hoping to add to that total.
This is not the first time Maureen has raised funds for the Hospice. She also toasted her toes by taking part in a firewalk event.
