Hundreds take part in St Nicholas Hospice Care 10K Run

Hundreds of runners took to the streets of Bury St Edmunds on Sunday, 27 September, as they completed the St Nicholas Hospice Care 10K Run in support of local hospice care.

The popular event, sponsored by Skechers Performance, saw runners of all abilities set off from Angel Hill before following a scenic route through the town, including Abbey Gate, Abbey Gardens and Moreton Hall, before returning to the finish line in the town centre.

Participants took on the challenge for a variety of reasons, with many running in memory of loved ones, to say thank you for care received, or simply to support their local hospice.

Every participant who crossed the finish line received a commemorative medal, kindly sponsored by Bluesys IT Services, helping to make the day even more memorable for runners.

While final sponsorship totals are still being calculated, the event is expected to raise thousands of pounds to help St Nicholas Hospice Care continue providing specialist palliative care and support for people and families across West Suffolk and Thetford.

Charlie De-Moore, Events and Community Fundraising Manager at St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of this year’s 10K Run. The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible, and it was fantastic to see so many people come together to support local hospice care.

“Whether participants were aiming for a personal best, running in memory of someone special or simply taking on a new challenge, every runner helped make a real difference.

“We would like to thank everyone who took part, volunteered, donated, cheered runners on from the sidelines and helped make the event possible. We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsor, Skechers Performance,  and our medal sponsors Bluesys IT Services, whose support helped us deliver another fantastic event.

“As a local charity, we rely on the generosity of our community. The money raised through events like this helps ensure that no one in West Suffolk and Thetford has to face dying, death or grief alone.”

The Hospice would also like to thank the many volunteers, supporters, local businesses and community groups who contributed to the success of the event.
