Music will bring people together for hospice care

St Nicholas Hospice Care is inviting people from across West Suffolk and beyond to enjoy an evening of live music while helping to support local hospice care.

Taking place at St Edmundsbury Cathedral on Saturday, 14 November 2026, Rhapsody in Bury will bring together the West Suffolk Symphonic Wind Band and renowned pianist Jill Morton for a concert designed to celebrate local musical talent while raising funds for the hospice.

The programme opens with José Alberto Pina’s soaring and cinematic Steel Overture before taking audiences on a musical journey through jazz, Broadway and Latin America. Concertgoers will enjoy the timeless elegance of the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto and highlights from the award-winning musical Chicago, featuring some of the show’s most memorable melodies.

At the heart of the evening is George Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, performed by Jill Morton, whose captivating interpretation brings this much-loved masterpiece to life. The excitement continues with Arturo Márquez’s electrifying Danzón No. 2, a vibrant Latin American favourite celebrated around the world for its colour, energy and irresistible rhythms. Together with a selection of other musical surprises, the programme promises an unforgettable evening for music lovers of all ages.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming the West Suffolk Symphonic Wind Band and Jill Morton to the stunning setting of St Edmundsbury Cathedral for what promises to be a wonderful evening.

“We know there are many people who enjoy live music and are looking for ways to support local causes. This event offers an opportunity to do both. Every ticket purchased helps raise unrestricted income for the Hospice, allowing us to continue providing specialist care, emotional support, and practical help to local people and their families.”

“Every ticket purchased, donation made, raffle ticket bought, and programme advertisement sold will contribute towards helping the hospice continue to be there for people facing dying, death and grief.”

The hospice’s care is free for patients and families, but it is not free to provide. It costs around £9.7 million each year to run St Nicholas Hospice Care, with around 68p in every £1 coming from the generosity of the local community through donations, fundraising, retail, lottery, events and gifts in Wills. Last year, the Hospice supported 1,814 people across West Suffolk and Thetford.

Supported by headline sponsor Chassis Cab, the concert’s first release of tickets offers 260 seats, with additional capacity available if demand is strong. Audience members are encouraged to book early.
