Abbey Gardens fireworks spark thousands
The skies above the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds were ablaze with colour as the fireworks event, held in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care, proved a resounding success with thousands raised.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of local residents and supporters, the event organisers are pleased to share, that the event, which was attended by 4,500 people, raised almost £40,000 to help fund the hospice’s vital work across West Suffolk and Thetford.
Organised in partnership by St Edmundsbury Theatre Services, St Nicholas Hospice Care, and Bury St Edmunds Town Council, the evening brought together families, friends, and supporters for a night of entertainment, with live music, fairground rides, and family-friendly activities to enjoy.
The highlight of the evening was the spectacular fireworks display, set to music, which lit up the night sky.
Marcus Eustace of St Edmundsbury Theatre Services said: “It was a great evening of family entertainment and all in aid of such an important local charity. Particular thanks must go to all the volunteers, attractions, traders, firework specialists and park staff without whom we couldn’t have made the event happen.
“With the support of the town council and the team from St Nicholas Hospice Care it was really exciting to put on the event and particularly enjoyable see so many smiling children with their families enjoying a safe and spectacular evening in the Abbey Gardens once again.”
Bury St Edmunds mayor Cllr Donna Higgins, added: “The Town Council were so pleased to be approached by St Edmundsbury Theatre Services with a proposal to hold a fireworks display in the Abbey Gardens once more.
“I know the town people and those in the surrounding areas have all missed the opportunity to gather and share in the delights of a display. When we were told that the beneficiaries of the proceeds were to be St Nicholas Hospice that sealed the deal. The volunteers, amongst them the town council staff and many others who we know devote themselves to supporting the community, were out in force to help the event run safely.
“It was a wonderful display, but most importantly it was the coming together of our community on a large scale to enjoy and raise funds for a charity which has touched the lives of so many of us.
“I do hope that we can work towards a future event and build on experience to make it even more successful.”
With a daily funding gap of over £18,000, support from events like this is essential to ensure St Nicholas Hospice Care can continue to provide compassionate care for individuals and families. The funds raised will make a real difference to the lives of those in need.
Charlie De-Moore, events manager at St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the incredible amount raised. Every ticket purchased and every moment shared at the Abbey Gardens helps us continue our mission to support local people and families facing dying, death, and grief.
“The community’s generosity and enthusiasm have made this event truly special, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who played a part in its success.”
