Information regarding road closures for our 10K run

Runners of all abilities will be lacing up their trainers for the St Nicholas Hospice Care 10K Run, which returns on Sunday, 28 September 2025.

After a sell-out event last year, the occasion will raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care which supports those across West Suffolk and Thetford facing dying, death and grief.

Sponsored once again by Skechers Performance, the event starts and finishes on Angel Hill, with a scenic circular route taking runners through Abbey Gardens, along closed roads, out to Moreton Hall, and back into town.

To keep runners safe during the 10K run, temporary road closures and traffic controls will be in place from 10am until 2pm around the course:

Angel Hill – Start/finish line outside entrance to the Abbey Gardens

• Car park closed

• Angel Hill closed from 9:30am until the event ends, at approximately 2pm.

Route measures:

• Shakers Lane: closed from 10am to 10:20am (or until carriageway is clear, last runner through)

• Mount Road (from Shakers Lane turn-off to Orttewell Road roundabout): closed from 10am to 10:30am (or until carriageway is clear, last runner through)

• Key junctions on Lady Miriam Way, Skyliner Way, Drovers Avenue and Orttewell Road: short delays expected whilst temporary measures stop traffic to allow runners to cross safely.

Charlie De-Moore, event manager at St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “We’re thrilled to bring back our 10K Run this September. Last year’s event was an incredible day filled with energy, community spirit and fantastic support.

We appreciate all of the wonderful support we have had for this event and we’re making sure everyone can enjoy the run safely. If you are in the area on the day and see our runners, please give them a wave and a cheer, and thank you in advance for your understanding should you need to pause your journey.”

Online sign ups for the run close at 9am Wednesday, 25 September, on the day sign ups will not be taken, all runners wishing to take part must have registered in advance. You can find out more here
