Verification of Expected Death (2026) Refresher Course
Date: 10 Sep 2026
Speaker: Joanne Hill, Practice Educator
Date: 19 Nov 2026
Speaker: Joanne Hill, Practice Educator
This course is suitable for: Registered Professionals who have previously completed training on VOED but may not have had the opportunity to undertake this for some time and would find a refresher beneficial.
Duration: Two hours
Cost: £30
Verification of Expected Death (VOED) is an important stage in the process for relatives and carers. Until this has been performed, no further action can be taken with regard to the deceased. When a person has an expected or predictable death, this can be confirmed by a registered medical practitioner, or other appropriately trained and qualified individual.
The two-hour refresher will cover all key points of the verification process with an update on policy and practice. This course helps to identify the role of the registered nurse (or other registered healthcare professional) in verification of death and the conditions set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) when undertaking this role. It outlines the differences between expected death and other patterns of dying and reviews terms such as palliative, terminal, end of life and dying and death so that you can confidently and competently verify expected death.
