Fundraisers set to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks
A group of fundraisers will have steep hills to climb as they take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, all in the name of good causes.
The five-strong team from Metrita Wealth Management will tackle the 24-mile round trip route, including 1585m of ascent, on July 27.
The challenge, which will raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care and Young Lives V Cancer, will see Andrew Ross, Lee Johnson, Emma Bryant, Lucinda Nurse, and Charlotte MacDonald take on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres).
With the idea being Andrew’s, his four teammates are a little more anxious than him – one has a bad back, one has a dodgy foot, and two are busy mums with little time to train, but they are all determined to raise as much as they can for their chosen charities.
Charlotte and Lucinda both have connections with the Hospice. Lucinda’s Mum was supported by St Nic’s when she stayed in the Hospice’s ward, and they also helped her by organising a wig.
Charlotte’s Dad, Anthony King, was also cared for on the Hospice ward in May 2020 during the first lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Charlotte said: “Not being allowed to visit was hard for the family, but we knew we could call the Hospice to pass on messages.
“The small touches meant so much to the family – the pastor visited Dad several times, and she was there for the family when he passed away. All the family were given a knitted heart also, which was a lovely touch.
“The Hospice offers so much support to families in so many ways, and this is our way of saying thank you.”
St Nicholas Hospice Care supports people across the local area facing dying, death and grief. It cares for people on its inpatient ward and wherever they call home. It also provides counselling for those who are ill and their loved ones and bereavement support for adults and children.
Lee Graham, the hospice’s corporate fundraiser, said: “On behalf of everyone at St Nic’s, I’d like to wish Andrew, Lee, Emma, Lucinda and Charlotte from Metrita Wealth Management the very best of luck with their upcoming Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
“They certainly haven’t set themselves an easy challenge, and we are so grateful that they have chosen to fundraise for St Nic’s along the way. Thank you for your support.”
