Christmas tree recycling service leads to thousands

Collecting and recycling a bumper crop of Christmas trees has raised much-needed funds.

In a break from their usual activities, St Nicholas Hospice Care’s house clearance team had a busy start to the New Year thanks to their Christmas Tree Recycling Service.

The team had their hands full as they picked up around 1,500 trees from homes across West Suffolk and Thetford, and through donations, for the service, which saved residents a trip to the tip, the team were able to raise £10,112 (including Gift Aid).

Darren Devine, the hospice’s house clearance and retail support manager, said: “It certainly has been a busy start to the year for the team, and we are so pleased that once again, so many people have supported our Christmas Tree Recycling Service.

“To start 2023 off by raising more than £10,000 for the hospice is fantastic, and the funds will be used to support the vital work St Nic’s does across the community, helping people and their families at such difficult times.”

All the trees which were collected, the biggest being 17ft, were recycled free of charge by The Country Life Landscapes and Grange Farm Christmas Trees.

Oliver Reynolds from The Country Life Landscapes said they were more than happy to support the service this year.

Oliver said: “We lost a very close friend Lisa Frost in December 2021, and the hospice gave her such a comfortable ending, and have just wanted to do a bit to give back to a great charity.

“I really loved helping out and feel it went really well. Both The Country Life Landscapes and Grange Farm Christmas Trees have been really pleased we could help out for such a good cause and raise a good amount of money for a very deserving charity.”

Following their festive clean-up efforts, the house clearance team will be returning to their day-to-day activities. If you are interested in the service, you can call 01284 747622 to book a free quotation or email houseclearance@stnh.org.uk.

“Thank you to everyone who booked a collection, and of course, a massive thank you to TCL Landscapes and Grange Farm Christmas Trees, who recycled the trees free of charge for us, ensuring every penny went to St Nic’s,” added Darren.
