New Community Fundraiser joins the team

George Chilvers is St Nicholas Hospice Care’s new Community Fundraiser covering the Sudbury, Long Melford, Lavenham, Clare and Haverhill areas, and is aiming to help raise the £11,000 needed to run the Hospice every day.

The 28-year-old has a background in fundraising, having previously worked at Age UK Suffolk, but was keen to work at St Nicholas Hospice Care following his nan’s experience in another hospice.
“I thought I had some idea of what hospices did, but now I am working at St Nicholas Hospice Care my view has completely changed,” said George. “It is not just a building, or a ward – it is the fact we do so much in people’s homes and have so many volunteers who go out into the community and do amazing work.

“On my second day a group of children came in to play music for patients. Looking round, I could see how much it meant to those patients. The Hospice is not just about medical care and support but about the little things, such as listening to music or sitting in the gardens.

“Working at St Nicholas Hospice Care has made me even more passionate about raising the funds it needs.”

Since joining the Hospice George has been out and about getting to know as many supporters as possible, but he is keen to meet more and hopes to see members of the public at Sudbury Open Gardens, on 3 July. Meanwhile, he is asking for any groups, societies or schools interested in hearing about the Hospice to contact him for talks or visits.

“I’m also very keen to find a volunteer to distribute and pick up collection tins in Sudbury, and for any shops or businesses willing to have a collection tin to get in touch. Collection tins are an easy way of fundraising for us and volunteers who collect and distribute tins make a big impact and help to raise thousands for the Hospice,” he added.
