A charity fundraiser will be using her pedal power to raise funds

A hospice volunteer determined to keep supporting us has decided to fundraise differently and take on a new challenge.

Gwen Williams, one of our fundraising volunteers  can usually be found marshalling at events, donning costumes for themed street collections, or lending a hand at the charity’s Chapel Pond Hill Donation Centre.

Due to the current restrictions, Gwen can’t support the hospice in the same way, so has instead decided to take on a slightly different challenge involving her exercise bike.

Gwen, who also helps to run help run Lymphoedema Support Suffolk, is currently completing one of the charity’s More or Less challenges, which encourages people to do more or less of something in a bid to raise much-needed funds.

Gwen said: I am supporting the hospice’s More or Less Challenge by peddling the miles normally driven to see greatly missed family and friends around the UK on an exercise bike.

“I am currently shielding so it’s a great way to get more exercise whilst also fundraising for the hospice.

“Like other hospice volunteers I am missing helping out and making a difference to other people’s lives, so joining in the More or Less Challenge means I can continue to help support the fantastic work the hospice does.

“Over the years the hospice has helped with the care for much-missed family and friends, as well as providing support to friends who are still happily with us.

“The hospice enables people to surrounded by dignity, support and love when they and their families need it the most. Not just at the end of days but also helping to guide people of all ages through dark times to lighter and brighter days.”

The More or Less Challenge is running until the end of March, and if you’d like to you can sign up here: https://stnicholashospice.org.uk/news-community/events-listing/more-or-less-challenge/.

Challenges can be anything you like, do more exercise, watch less television, or eat more fruit and vegetables.

Gwen has set herself the goal of cycling 440 miles on her exercise bike, she’s already clocked up 150 miles and hopes to do another 150miles this month (February). So far, she’s raised more than £400 and is determined to keep going.
