Fundraising Beaver Scouts celebrate with campfire

A team of determined youngsters donned their best pyjamas and pulled on their wellies as they recreated a hospice’s charity walk in their own special way.

Using St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Girls Night Out walk as inspiration, around 180 Beaver Scouts from across the area held their very own Beavers Night Out and raised £1,766.73 for the charity, which supports those living with dying, death and grief.

To celebrate their achievements a traditional campfire event took place on Tuesday, 24 September, which saw the Beaver Scouts, dressed in their pyjamas, present the charity with the funds they had raised.

The occasion also featured songs as well as the chance for the youngsters to enjoy a hot chocolate, marshmallows and biscuits in recognition of their efforts.

Jenny Smith, events manager at St Nicholas Hospice Care, said: “I would like to thank each and every Beaver Scout who pulled on their bunny ears and pyjamas to raise funds for the hospice.

“The money they have raised will made a big difference to us and help us keep supporting people across the community who really need us.

“I would also like to thank Lucinda and all of the leaders and supporters who helped make the second Beavers Night Out event such a success.”

Although the sponsored walk took place in June, the final amount raised took some time to calculate as all of the Beaver Scouts returned their sponsorship money.

It was the second time the Beavers Night Out event had taken place, with the initial idea thought of by the 6th Bury St Edmunds St Mary’s Beaver Scout Colony and their leader Lucinda Wade.

This year’s occasion, saw youngsters from the 6th Bury St Edmunds St Mary’s Beaver Scout Colony joined by members of the Great Barton Seasons Colony, 1st Honington (RAF) Colony, 1st Horringer Colony, 1st Ixworth Colony, 1st Lakenheath Colony and 1st Red Lodge Colony, walk two-miles around Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds.
