35 stories for 35 years: Royal visits

This week the Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their new son Archie Harrison to the world.

Harry and Meghan’s royal announcement reminds us of our own royal news over the last 35 years.

In July 1993, HRH Diana Princess of Wales formally opened the Hospice and 12 years later HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall helped us celebrate our 21st birthday.

During her visit, Princess Diana opened the Hospice’s inpatient ward which is now called the Sylvan Ward.

On July 22, 2005, the Hospice celebrated its 21st birthday with a visit from HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. Prince Charles cut an anniversary cake and said:

“I am ceaselessly amazed by the contribution of so many local people who give up so much devotion to the hospice. The people who come here are given a haven of peace and, above all, the attention of people who listen.”
