Family’s charity ball will raise funds for Hospice

A determined family of fundraisers spurred on by the memory of their loved one is once again throwing their efforts into supporting our charity.

Denise, Todd, Alex and Bethany Unsworth are hoping their next charitable occasion in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care – a black-tie ball – will raise vital funds the charity needs to continue providing support for those in the final chapters of their lives.

The family, who live in Croxton, have been supporting the hospice since 2015, and are inspired to fundraise in memory of Denise’s mother Mary Vogeler.

Denise said: “The reasons behind our fundraising start with experiencing the expertise, love and support first-hand when my mum was given a prognosis of terminal cancer requiring palliative treatment back in 2015.

“We were overwhelmed by how much support we received as a family in addition to the care that was needed for our special person.

“We as a family cannot thank them all enough and would love to continue to support the hospice to give other families what we had the chance to receive.”

Tickets for the ball, which will take place on June 2, at Lynford Hall Hotel, Mundford, Norfolk, are now on sale priced at £45.

The occasion, which is the third of its kind, will include a Bucks Fizz drink on arrival with grand entrance photography, a three-course meal, disco and magician. There will also be music from the New Mojos Funk & Soul Band, plus a charity raffle with prizes donated by a number of local businesses.

Denise said: “The event involves a lot of planning and it did start off as a one off event but it was so thoroughly enjoyed by popular demand it has become an annual event.

“We also have good friends on board who have also experienced the same outstanding care that we have.”

Last year the family’s ball raised £2,146.23 for the charity, which cares for those across west Suffolk and south Norfolk coping with long-term and life-threatening illnesses while supporting their families too.

The family have also completed a variety of other events and challenges for the Hospice, with their efforts leading to a fundraising total of £8,762.30.
