Visiting choir hopes to raise funds for Hospice

A choir which will travel more than 100 miles to serenade Bury St Edmunds with their tuneful tones will raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The Woodstock Chamber Choir, usually based in the Oxfordshire market town of Woodstock, will be performing at the United Reformed Church in Whitling Street later this month.

The charitable choir has decided to use their concert as a fundraising opportunity by including a retiring collection for the Hospice.

The choir, which visits and performs in a new location every summer, will spend 21 hours rehearsing for the concert 13 of which will be in Bury, and they are hoping as many people as possible will join them for the occasion.

Choir member Gilliane Sills said: “I think many of us have had some experience of our local Hospice and very much value the amazing work they do.

“When looking for a charity in Bury St Edmunds St Nicholas Hospice Care seemed ideal. We hope to be able to give something back to the community that welcomes us to rehearse and sing.”

Part of the of the Woodstock Music Society, which was formed 40-years-ago, the chamber choir which consists of 40 voices is drawn from the society’s main choir which has around 90 singers, its own string orchestra, as well as wind and percussion players and professional soloists.

Admission to the concert, which begins at 8pm on Saturday, 29 July, is free.
