Celebration of the year’s longest day hopes to be a fundraising hit

Live music and fund for all the family will make sure 2017’s longest day is celebrated in style all in the name of charity.

To mark the summer solstice Barton Mills will be filled with the sound of music as the Bell Lane Solstice takes place once again.

With entertainment for all the family, including a barbecue and hog roast, music from Basketcase, Friction, Compere Karaoke Clive and plenty more the occasion will raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

One of the event’s organisers Tracy Witchlow said: “This year we have decided to raise funds for St Nicholas Hospice Care as well as the village has lost a few very dear people to cancer and you helped to make their last days as comfortable as possible so we feel like we would like to give something back.”

The event, which takes place on the closest Saturday to the summer solstice, which this year is Saturday, 17 June is always well supported by the local community.

Taking place outside Bell Inn pub, in Bell Lane, the event which is free to attend, will run from 1.30pm to 11.30pm.

The road will be closed to enable live music to ring out from the event’s wigwam stage and there will also be stalls for visitors to peruse too as well as a raffle for those who are feeling lucky.
