Family’s ball raises more than £4,000 for charity

A family of fundraisers have seen their support for a local hospice grow as they continue to dedicate their fundraising efforts to the memory of a special wife, mother and grandmother.

Denise, Todd, Alex and Bethany Unsworth’s charitable efforts in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care have just seen £4,150 handed over to the hospice, which cares for people across West Suffolk and Thetford in the final chapters of their lives.

The family, who live in Croxton, are spurred on to fundraise in memory of Denise’s mother Mary Vogeler. Mary was cared for by the charity before her death in 2015.

Their latest fundraising event, a black tie ball, which took place at Lynford Hall, Norfolk, was the third occasion of its kind, and once again proved a huge hit among the family’s supporters.

Denise said: “It really was a brilliant night. There was a great atmosphere on the night and everyone said how much they enjoyed it. For us, it is so nice to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

The night, which also featured music from New Mojos Funk & Soul Band as well as a disco and magician, also included a raffle, which featured 39 prizes kindly donated by a variety of local businesses.

Denise said: “We are so grateful to those who have supported us. When we ask for raffle prizes, local businesses are generous, with many of them supporting us year after year. We can’t thank everyone enough for the support.”

Having also undertaken a variety of other fundraising challenges this latest cheque takes the total the family have raised for the charity to almost £13,000.

Denise said: “For us, it is so important that other families are able to receive the hospice’s support as we did. They were there not just for mum but for all of us, that’s why this is so important to all of us.”

As well as other fundraising events, the family is already planning next year’s ball, which is set to take place at Lynford Hall on Saturday, 22 June 2019.
