Step Back In Time for St Nicholas Hospice Care: The Victorian Christmas.

In the second in a new series of lectures specifically for St Nicholas Hospice Care, Pat Murrell explores the legacy of the Victorian Christmas.

Most of the trappings of what is now thought of as a ‘traditional’ Christmas generally enjoyed by most, are a Victorian legacy.

However, the Victorian Christmas did not suddenly come into being – it evolved in a variety of ways. It is only by the second half of the nineteenth century that the basic elements of today’s traditional Christmas were fully established.

All will be revealed in this lively lecture by Pat Murrell, who will also re-acquaint you with what Charles Dickens wrote on the subject.

Tickets cost £10 per person (previous events have sold out, advance booking is essential).

Refreshments of mince pies and biscuits made to recipes of the period are included in your ticket price.

There will also be a Christmas raffle, with tickets available on the night.

Tickets are available from the Hospice Shop in St John’s Street or online by following the link below.

Future events: Three further lectures will be held in Spring 2022.

Thank you to Pat Murrell for holding this series of events in aid of the Hospice.
