Stanton Steamers Christmas Advent Calendar Challenge
Where?
Stanton, Bury Saint Edmunds, UK
When?
December 1, 2025 10am-2.30pm
We’re thrilled to be part of the Stanton Steamers Christmas Advent Calendar Challenge, a fantastic community event series that begins as the Steamers kick off their festivities at our Festive Fun Run.
The Stanton Steamers are a friendly, inclusive social running group that formed four years ago. What began as a small group of friends who wanted company on dark winter runs has grown into a welcoming community of more than 20 runners. Started by Sarah Dunsdon during lockdown, the group was created to keep people active, connected and supported, with the simple mantra: “no-one gets left behind.”
They now meet every Tuesday at 6.45pm at Stanton Village Hall for a relaxed 5km social run, with new runners joining regularly. As a non-club, there are no fees, just turn up and you’ll always find a warm welcome.
Run for St Nicholas in the run-up to Christmas
This year, the Steamers are inviting everyone to take part in their Christmas Advent Calendar Challenge – a virtual event you can do anytime, anywhere.
From 1–24 December, participants will receive a digital advent calendar, with a new door to open each day, revealing either:
- a short run, walk or activity challenge, or
- a small act of kindness or wellbeing.
The aim is simply to complete as many as you can and enjoy the festive motivation.
Festive themed runs
On the group’s usual Tuesday runs, you’re invited to join in with fun festive themes (accessories encouraged!):
2 Dec: Elf Dash
9 Dec: Reindeer Trot
16 Dec: Santa Shuffle
23 Dec: Christmas Eve Eve Finale
Everyone is welcome to take part.
How to enter
The challenge is a virtual event, so you can take part whenever and wherever suits you.

Why they’re supporting the Hospice
The Stanton Steamers have chosen to support St Nicholas Hospice Care because our charity holds a special place in the hearts of many in their group, their families and friends. Several members have experienced firsthand the care, comfort and compassion the hospice provides during some of life’s hardest moments.
This challenge is their way of giving something back, helping ensure we can continue offering vital support to people across the community who need us.
